How Do Mesh Laundry Bags Work?

Mesh Laundry Bags Blog Post

If you’re not yet sold on the benefits of using mesh laundry bags, then understanding how they work might change your mind. This blog post covers how laundry bags work, the various ways to use them, and the different types of bags available.

First, let’s understand how laundry bags work.

How They Work

Mesh laundry bags work by providing a protective layer between the items contained within it and other items in the washer.  Often used in sports and corrections, mesh bags keep laundry separated during the washing and drying cycle.

The Bag

They’re made from a porous and durable polyester mesh material, that allows water and soap suds to pass through it while providing a barrier to other articles. You place your items inside, secure them with the attached closure device or zipper, then place the bag into the washer.

The Closure

There are many types of closures available for mesh bags; some are better than others. The closures available on the Texon laundry bags include: zippers, rubber closures and net clips .

Sizing

Texon’s mesh bags are available in the following sizes: 15” x 19”, 18” x 24”, 20” x 30”, and 24” x 36”. The capacity of these bags reach up to 26 lbs for the 24” x 36”.

Ways To Use Laundry Bags

The primary use for mesh laundry bags is to protect delicate fabrics in the wash. Placing items inside a mesh bag prevents them from getting damaged, especially if you have a mixed laundry load.

Another way to use them is to separate certain articles of clothing from the rest of the laundry. For example, sporting wear that contains Velcro straps could pull threads from delicate garments.

You can also use laundry bags to prevent items from getting misplaced in the washer. For example, keeping socks together or to prevent mixing articles with another person’s clothing.

Finally, mesh bags can be used to carry items that benefit from aeration – such as sporting equipment or gym clothes.

Types of Laundry Bags

Laundry bags differ with the type of closure they use.  They also differ in quality of materials.  At Texon, we only use the highest quality mesh available to create durable mesh bags that will withstand the heavy washings in an athletic department environment.  As mentioned earlier, there are 3 types available through Texon:

Zipper Mesh Laundry Bags

The zipper closure is designed for ease of use. Simply place the items inside and then zip shut the laundry bag. Unfortunately, zippers tend to wear the quickest of the three and are prone to damage.

Rubber Closure Laundry Bags

Rubber closures keep the contents of the mesh bag secure while preventing damage to the dryer or washer. These closures are the most difficult to use (of the three) and have the potential to get lost in the washing/drying process.

Net Clip Laundry Bags

The net clip bag uses an alligator clip to secure its contents. It is more secure and easier to use than the rubber closure, but it too has the potential to pop off while washing/drying.
